When Spring Storms Arrive, the LP® SmartSide® Limited Hail Warranty Covers You

Last spring, LP announced an expansion of its comprehensive warranty on LP® SmartSide® products to include limited coverage of hail damage. Already one of the most generous warranties on the market, the added hail coverage made the LP SmartSide 5/50 Limited Warranty even more attractive to homeowners, architects, builders and remodelers.

When spring storms arrive, builders and remodelers who use LP SmartSide trim and siding will rarely need to worry about replacing hail-damaged siding on their projects. LP SmartSide products are warranted to resist damage from hail, up to 1.75 inches in diameter, when properly installed and maintained according to the LP application instructions.

‘It’s a Great Feeling for Us’

LP SmartSide siding has been resisting hail damage on homes throughout the country. When a summer hailstorm hit many homes in the Twin Cities area, those homes clad in LP SmartSide siding were left unscathed by the high winds and large hail – requiring no repairs or replacement.

That’s why Chad Donnay, vice president of Donnay Homes, the oldest privately-owned homebuilder in Minnesota, finds peace of mind in specifying LP SmartSide siding for new homes. “It’s a huge comfort to know that we’re giving our clients a product on their home that is so durable and can stand up to the elements. Here in Minnesota, we have humid summers, freezing winters and unpredictable storms. LP SmartSide products stand up against hail and resist weather,” Donnay explained. “It’s a great feeling for us as a homebuilder to know that we’re giving the homeowner a product that is under warranty if it gets damaged during a hailstorm.”

Chris Cook, a Wisconsin homebuilder, agrees. He and his team have been installing LP SmartSide Trim & Siding on his homes since 2009. Cook was introduced to the product line by a colleague and began using it on Craftsman-style homes. Despite a challenging housing market, the LP SmartSide homes began selling so well, he quickly made the product standard on all Chris Cook Homes.

“We’ve done some really interesting homes that you couldn’t create with fiber cement and certainly couldn’t create with vinyl. LP SmartSide products made it possible,” said Cook.

What Else Is Included?

The limited hail coverage of the LP SmartSide 5/50 Limited Warranty is in addition to LP’s generous warranty coverage on materials and labor. LP SmartSide trim and siding come backed with:

  • A 5-year, 100% labor and replacement feature
  • A 50-year prorated, limited warranty on substrate
  • Warranty is transferrable to the next homeowner
