Tips to Plan a Memorable Outdoor Gathering This Fall

We all know winter is just around the corner, which is a great reason to get outside and enjoy the mild autumn weather! Use these ideas to help make your backyard the perfect place for memorable fall gatherings.

  • Hang lights. A few strings of lights or carefully-hung lanterns can be all it takes to transform a shadowy backyard into the perfect party space. As an alternative to burning lanterns, simply bundle string lights in glass jars or lanterns. The glowing light will create interest without the danger of real flames.
  • Decorate with fall décor. Your fall festivity won’t be complete without some autumn-themed décor or seasonal plants. Haybales do double duty as decorations and convenient seating, while containers of mums are an easy way to add pops of color.
  • Add warmth. Make an outdoor lounge spot feel cozy with extra throw blankets and pillows from inside the house. A portable outdoor firepit added on the patio is guaranteed to be a popular gathering place as guests cozy up to stay warm. Be sure to take safety into consideration – the part of your patio where you use the firepit should be clad with stone or brick.
  • Set up an outdoor bar. An outdoor bar is another great feature to add to a fall gathering. On a warm day it will cool you, and on a cold night it will warm you up! Your bar can be as simple as a mobile cart or as extravagant as a shed transformed into a bar, like this unique backyard bar
  • Snap a memory. Hanging a fall photo backdrop on the side of a shed is a fun way to create your own photo op. Make it easy for your guests to remember the occasion and mix things up a bit when they get tired of sitting around the fire.
  • Create a S’mores station. Setting up a S’mores station is simple and the perfect way to end any fall get-together. Offering an array of different toppings gives guests a chance to get creative and build their own customized dessert.
