A Look Ahead: Siding Color Trends for 2017

At the latest International Home + Housewares Show, color mogul Pantone® shared its predictions of which colors would be trending for the 2017 home. Pantone’s primary business is to set color standards across a wide range of industries. In addition, each year the company assembles a group of experts who decide which color palettes will likely be popular in the next year.

To do this, Pantone pulled inspiration from current design trends, like black and white imagery and metallics, as well as bright colors from the film industry, most notably from films like The Peanuts Movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Disney’s Inside Out. These colors can ultimately influence everything from interior design and home furnishings to flooring and even house siding colors.

Keeping House Siding Colors Fresh

At the show, Pantone introduced nine color palettes that they predict will influence color direction in 2017. However, when it comes to siding design, manufacturers tend to adopt color trends much more slowly than the textile and housewares industries. And there’s a good reason for that: it’s easy to swap out the pillows on your couch but not so easy to switch a siding color. Changing the color of your siding is an expensive and challenging proposition. However, that doesn’t mean that house siding colors can’t stay fresh and new.

Take a look at the color palettes developed by The Decorologist® for LP® SmartSide® Trim & Siding products that reflect many of the color trends predicted by Pantone.

  • Soft pastels like Pantone’s Color of the Year picks are trending with colors such as Glorygold and Lamb’s Ear.
  • Pantone’s relaxing Forest Bathing palette features several shades of green and blue-green that are reflective of nature, just like Creek Bottom, Stoneybrook Acres, Garden Gnome and Echo Valley.
  • Florbundant, a Pantone palette filled with rich floral hues, would be right at home with Potting Shed and varying shades of green.
  • Two Pantone palettes, At Ease and Raw Materials, feature ever-popular neutrals in both warm and cool tones. For your siding, Cathedral, Shortening Bread, Manor House and Paper Birch similarly provide muted, timeless color.
